Crazy Horse at Camp Raven Knob
Family Camping Trip
Start: 4/23/10 5:00PM End: 4/25/10 12:00PM Location: Raven's Knob
Family camping will take place at Camp Raven Knob April 24th and 25th. Compared to the busy times of Summer and early Fall, camp Raven knob is nice and quiet in Springtime. This is a chance to take the whole family camping. While you're there, go on a short hike, maybe do a bit of fishing, and bring along the scout book to work on a few electives while sitting around the campfire.
Cost to register is $10 per family or $4 an individual, to cover the cost of a cook out on Saturday.
Key Times and Places:
We will meet at the church parking lot Saturday morning at 8:00AM, leave by 8:30AM, and arrive at camp around 10:00AM. We will return home Sunday, leaving camp as you wish.
Extra night of camping:
Feel free to join us for a bonus night of camping Friday night, April 23rd. In this case, you will need to provide your own meals for Friday night and Saturday morning. Friday evening travel is on your own, but if you are coming on Friday, plan to arrive at camp between 4:00PM and sundown.
Meals:
We will have a big cook out Saturday night. Other meals are on your own. We recommend a bag lunch for Saturday. For Sunday morning, some campers plan a simple breakfast such as granola bars or cereal, while others pack up and leave early for breakfast.
Packing list:
-)Sleeping bag and extra blanket(it's colder in the mountains)
-) Lawn chairs
-) Class A scout uniform
-) Extra shoes and socks
-) Poncho or rain gear
-) Layers of clothing and/or heavy coats
-) Flashlights
-) Spending money (optional)
-) Fishing gear (optional)
-) Bag lunch for Saturday
-) Plans for breakfast
Fun:
Feel free to bring things like baseballs, footballs, frisbees, etc. The camp has an excellent disk golf course, great hiking trails, and fishing ponds.
Shelter:
We hope to have a campsite with cabins (Adirondack), but there will not be enough for every family to have their own. If you have a tent, please bring it. Adults are not allowed to sleep in the same shelters as the scouts unless a single family camps in the same tent/cabin.
Fires:
It would be helpful if a few people could bring some firewood.
No-no's:
Please do NOT bring bicycles, pets, alcohol, or firearms. Please do not smoke in the presence of scouts. We drive TO camp, then we park and do not drive IN camp because we walk everywhere. No sandals (closed toe shoes/boots only). No running. No throwing sticks/stones. Leave electronic devices at home (no radios, TVs, games, etc).
Help!
If you get lost on the way to camp, contact either Shannon Crawford (830-4269) or Michael Engler (558-7415). If you have general questions prior to camp, call either of us. Your den leader is also a great resource for questions.
